The most meaningful jewellery often begins long before it reaches the jeweller's bench.

Sometimes it begins with a story.

Sometimes with a tradition.

Sometimes, as this one did, with a blessing that has been spoken in Bali for generations.

The name is Rahayu.

Spoken softly during prayers, offered as a blessing, or shared with someone embarking on a new journey, it is one of those rare words that carries far more than a simple translation.

Woven into the fabric of everyday Balinese life, Rahayu carries heartfelt wishes of peace, safety, wellbeing, health and prosperity.

It is a blessing offered with genuine kindness and intention, reflecting the warmth, gentle nature and deep spirituality of the Balinese people.

Where the idea began

The journey to create the Rahayu Bali Blessing Necklace began in March 2026.

As our founder's daughter Riley approached her twenty-first birthday, she suggested that they both have a mother-and-daughter tattoo. Having grown up in Bali, Rahayu had always been a familiar word to her, often heard during family prayers and offerings led by Ngurah, her Balinese "Ajik" (father figure).

As Riley discovered more about the deeper meaning behind the blessing, the idea stayed with us.

Around the same time, conversations had already begun within the Mala Elements team about creating a piece that truly reflected the spirit of Bali. Not simply a piece inspired by the island, but one that honoured its culture, its people and the traditions that continue to shape daily life.

It soon became clear that Rahayu was the blessing we had been searching for.

Creating a wearable blessing

The necklace features the word Rahayu in traditional Balinese Aksara script, one of Bali's most treasured cultural traditions.

In its written form, the characters are grouped in pairs.

To transform the blessing into a piece of jewellery that could be worn every day, we worked closely with our Balinese silversmith over many months to respectfully connect each character into one continuous design while preserving the integrity of the original script.

The result is a flowing silhouette that feels both elegant and deeply meaningful.

Guided by Balinese tradition

Throughout the design process, we were guided by Ngurah, an integral part of the Mala Elements family, and his father, a respected Balian (traditional Balinese healer). Their knowledge of Balinese tradition and the meaning behind the blessing helped shape the project from the very beginning, ensuring the script and its significance were always treated with the respect they deserve.

If you've visited our Seminyak store, there's a good chance you've met Ngurah. Each afternoon he performs traditional blessings over our jewellery before spending time with customers, sharing stories of Balinese culture, spirituality and the deeper meanings behind many of our pieces. His warmth, generosity and unmistakable smile have become part of the Mala Elements experience.

In Ngurah's words

"Rahayu is a blessing we use in many moments throughout life. We often speak it three times. It may be offered before someone travels, when beginning something new, or simply as a wish for health, peace, protection and success."

More than a necklace

Today, 6 July 2026, we are proud to share the Rahayu Bali Blessing Necklace with the world.

Handcrafted in Bali in .925 Sterling Silver and 18ct Gold Vermeil, each piece is presented in our signature linen gift box and accompanied by a keepsake story card sharing the meaning behind the blessing.

More than anything, we hope this necklace becomes a quiet reminder.

A reminder to slow down.

To carry a little of Bali's gentle spirit with you wherever life takes you.

To approach each day with peace, kindness and gratitude.

From our Bali family to yours, Rahayu.
