Our Story

ABOUT US

Mala Elements was founded in late 2020, during a time when the island fell quiet and many local livelihoods were deeply affected by the sudden decline in tourism. Created with purpose, Mala Elements was built to support and empower Balinese female artisans. Women whose skills, traditions, and craftsmanship deserved to continue being seen, valued, and shared with the world.

With a desire to harness Bali’s unique energy and offer something meaningful during a time of global uncertainty, founder Debbie Amelsvoort brought together a small team of local women. Their purpose was to create jewellery designed not only to be worn, but to be felt, pieces that carry intention, connection, and soul.

Every piece at Mala Elements is consciously handcrafted using traditional techniques such as hand-knotting, weaving, stringing, and stone setting. We use only natural materials—genuine gemstones, real pearls, and precious metals—carefully selected for both their beauty and their meaning.

Supporting Local, Protecting Our Environment

Our materials from our beads to our packaging are all sourced locally, with a strong focus on supporting female-owned suppliers. Every step of the process is considered: from operating with zero-waste principles to using no plastics in our jewellery or packaging.

In 2022, Mala Elements opened its first retail store in Seminyak, a space that continues to create opportunities for local employment and growth, while bringing the full experience of the brand to life.

Today, Mala Elements continues to grow, while remaining deeply connected to its roots. The women you meet in-store are the very same women involved in the creation of each piece—from sourcing gemstones and beads, to design and production. It is this full-circle process that makes every piece feel personal, and every connection genuine.

Blessed in Bali

Both the jewellery and the store are blessed with Holy Water from Alangsankar in North Bali, as part of daily Hindu rituals, an integral part of the energy and intention behind all that we create.

We are deeply grateful to our customers those who visit us in-store and those who discover us online. Those who value meaningful jewellery and support the hands and stories behind each piece.
